Can I independently use off-platform promotional offers to give away virtual rewards to my users?
Developers may independently implement promotional offers only for virtual rewards in their own Roblox experience, as long as:
- The reward is only usable in the experience where the offer is being redeemed,
- The in-experience reward has no value in Robux or real-world currency,
- The offer redemption details are published in a publicly accessible way,
- There is no exchange or transaction necessary for users to access or redeem the offer, and
- All of the above are clearly disclosed to users in all promotional materials
Developers must also follow Roblox Brand Guidelines in any promotional material.
Can I independently do a give away for an item available in the Roblox Marketplace?
No, you may only implement promotional offers for virtual items accessible and usable exclusively in your experience(s). You may not independently implement unique per-user codes in your promotion.
I printed a promo code on the packaging of a retail product on sale. Does that qualify as ‘publicly accessible’ to users?
No, you may not print codes for Roblox content on retail packaging without authorization. Publicly accessible offers must be available on the internet (e.g., on your public website, in one of your public social media posts, in the description of your experience details page on Roblox). Offer redemption details (e.g. redemption codes, granting via account linking) may not be included in retail bundles, unless participating in a contractual agreement with Roblox.
I’ve seen other devs create promo offers with Marketplace items. Why is that allowed?
Roblox initiated a limited program for some developers’ items to be associated with a real-world product via a contractual agreement with Roblox and approved manufacturers. You may come across promotions from this program that are authorized.
I’ve found devs selling rewards off-platform that I don’t think have a contractual agreement with Roblox. What are you going to do about them?
We take violations of our policies very seriously. Violators may be subject to suspensions of their DevEx services, account access, or content availability.
What do you mean by a “free” item?
The reward in your experience cannot be an item that you sell for Robux or an in-game currency that can be acquired with Robux. If an item is perceived as valuable because it requires a high level of skill or engagement time to earn, you may use a promo offer (e.g. redemption code) for that item as long as it is clearly published for any user to find and freely redeemable in your experience.
What do I do if my promotion is seasonal? Does that still count as “publicly accessible” to users?
You must make the redemption window clear to users anywhere your offer is promoted as part of the required disclosures.
