In addition to talking to your Roblox friends in experiences, you can also chat with them right on the Roblox website! You can view and join experiences your friends are playing directly from the chat.
Web Chat Basics
When you log into Roblox, you'll see a blue chat box located in the lower-right corner of the screen. Click this box to reveal the chat menu as seen in the image below. Here you'll have a list of your friends, chat groups, including the ability to play together with your friends.
- To start chatting, simply click on the desired person/group in your list. If the list is particularly long, you can search it using the search box.
- After clicking on who you would like to talk to, a smaller box will pop up to the left of your chat list.
- Type your message into the Send a Message box and hit the Enter key on your keyboard to send it.
- You can hide or un-hide a conversation by clicking on the blue title bar. To close it all together, click its X icon.
Chat Group
You can create a chat group if you and several of your friends want to chat together.
- To do this, click the Create Chat Group button at the top of the chat list (chat window on the right). This will open up a new chat window (on the left above).
- Click on the name of any users you would like to include and click the blue Create button when you’ve selected everyone.
- The New Chat Group window will turn into your chat group window like below. Simply type in what you would like to say into the Send a Message box and hit Enter on your keyboard to send it. Have fun chatting with your friends!
Note: If your friend adds you to a chat group, you will be added to it automatically. If you don't want to be in the chat, you can leave the chat at any time. If someone continues to add you to chat groups you don't want to be in, we encourage you to block them. How do I change the name of a chat group?
- Navigate to the chat group you wish to edit
- Select the gear icon
in the top right of the chat window
- Select Chat Group Name
- Type in a new name for the chat group
- When done, select the Save option
Note: This works the same regardless of whether or not you created the chat group.
How do I report or remove someone from a chat group I created?
- Navigate to the chat group you wish to edit

Select either Report User or Remove from Group.
Note: If the user said anything rude or inappropriate, or in any way violated Roblox's Terms of Use or Rules of Conduct, please make sure to select Report User and then select Remove from Group afterward.

Playing with Your Friends
While chatting with your friends, you can see which experiences your friends are currently playing, if their privacy settings allow it. When you scroll through your chat list you can see which experiences are being played, and join your friends in the experiences that you have access to.
How can I see which experiences my friends are playing?
To quickly see which experiences your friends are playing, you can scroll through your list of chats / chat groups to see which experiences are being played at a glance.
How do I join an experience with friends in a chat group?
Within a chat group, you can view which experience are being played by everyone in the group and you can select which experience you would like to join. If an experience icon next to a chat group has a drop shadow, that means there are multiple active experiences in the chat. Viewing the chat’s window would allow you to choose which experience you would like to play.
Note: If you cannot play a certain experience in question (e.g. paid access, not available on your platform) you will not see a join button for that experience.
How can I join my friends in experience, or have my friends join me?
Anyone in a one on one chat or a chat group can start an experience play session with friends by joining an experience. Doing so will add a join button for the experience to your chat, allowing anyone in the chat to choose to join at any time. You can toggle whether or not the experience information is displayed by clicking the experience's icon in the blue chat bar.
What are more ways I can play with my friends?
Anyone in a chat group can join experiences or give friends the option to join, and will not cause anyone to join an experience automatically. This enables you to choose to play the experiences you want, when you want with your friends.
Leaving a Group
If you are a part of a group and you would like to leave it, this can be done easily. All you need to do is click the icon at the top of the conversation box followed by Leave Group.
How to Disable Chat
To disable the methods of chat mentioned above, along with the ability to post on group walls, perform the following:
- Log into the account
- Go to your Account Settings page by clicking on the gear-icon, located in the upper-right corner of the page followed by Settings. Alternatively, you can click here
- Click on the Privacy tab and under "Who can chat with me in app?", select No one
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Save
Note: Turning off chat for "in-app" will disable the Team Create option in Roblox Studio.
