While Party is not supported on the Roblox website, users 13 and older can still access Party Chat to chat with friends.
Web Chat Basics
When you log into Roblox, you'll see a gray chat box located in the lower-right corner of the screen. Click this box to reveal the chat menu as seen in the image below. Here you'll have a list of your friends, chat groups, including the ability to play together with your friends.
- To start chatting, simply click on the desired person/group in your list. If the list is particularly long, you can search it using the search box.
- After clicking on who you would like to talk to, a smaller box will pop up to the left of your chat list.
- Type your message into the Send a Message box and hit the Enter key on your keyboard to send it.
- You can hide or unhide a conversation by clicking on the gray title bar. To close it all together, click its X icon.
Create a Group
You can create a group if you and several of your friends want to chat together. These groups will also show in the app for when you want to start Party with.
- To do this, click the Create Group button at the top of the chat list (chat window on the right). This will open up a new chat window (on the left above).
- Click on the name of any users you would like to include and click the grayy Create button when you’ve selected everyone.
- The New Group window will turn into your chat window like below. Simply type in what you would like to say into the Send a Message box and hit Enter on your keyboard to send it. Have fun chatting with your friends!
Note: If your friend adds you to a group, you will be added to it automatically. If you don't want to be in the chat, you can leave the chat at any time. If someone continues to add you to groups you don't want to be in, we encourage you to block them. How do I change the name of a group?
- Navigate to the group you wish to edit
- Select the gear icon
in the top right of the chat window
- Select Group Name
- Type in a new name for the group
- When done, select the Save option
Note: This works the same regardless of whether or not you created the group.
How do I report or remove someone from a group I created?
- Navigate to the group you wish to edit

Note: If the user said anything rude or inappropriate, or in any way violated Roblox's Terms of Use or Rules of Conduct, please make sure to select Report User and then select Remove from Group afterward.

Playing with Your Friends
While chatting with your friends, you can see which experiences your friends are currently playing, if their privacy settings allow it. When you scroll through your chat list you can see which experiences are being played, and join your friends in the experiences that you have access to.
How can I see which experiences my friends are playing?
To quickly see which experiences your friends are playing, you can scroll through your list of groups to see which experiences are being played at a glance.
How do I join an experience with friends in a group?
Within a group, you can view which experience are being played by everyone in the group and you can select which experience you would like to join. If an experience icon next to a group has a drop shadow, that means there are multiple active experiences in the chat. Viewing the chat’s window would allow you to choose which experience you would like to play.
Note: If you cannot play a certain experience in question (e.g. paid access, not available on your platform) you will not see a join button for that experience.
How can I join my friends in experience, or have my friends join me?
Anyone in a one on one or a group can start an experience play session with friends by joining an experience. Doing so will add a join button for the experience to your chat, allowing anyone in the chat to choose to join at any time. You can toggle whether or not the experience information is displayed by clicking the experience's icon in the gray chat bar.
What are more ways I can play with my friends?
Anyone in a chat group can join experiences or give friends the option to join, and will not cause anyone to join an experience automatically. This enables you to choose to play the experiences you want, when you want with your friends.
How to Disable Chat
For users age 13 and over, you have the option to change who can chat and also group up to join experiences together with you as follows:
- You have the option to change the Party setting default from Friends to No one. Selecting Friends limits you to a 1:1 Party (up to two members) and if you select No one you will be unable to participate in any Party.
- You also have the option to change the Group Party setting default from Friends to No one. The Friends setting indicates that you can be in a Party with up to six members.
Note: If settings for Party are defaulted to No one then Group Party will also be defaulted to No one.
