What is Voice Chat?
Voice chat is a feature that allows people to communicate on Roblox as naturally as they communicate in the physical world.
Developers have the choice to integrate voice chat in their experiences, and therefore it may not be supported when playing certain experiences.
Eligible 13+ users who are phone number verified can opt-in to use this feature by visiting their Account Settings page. They will then be able to use voice chat in any Roblox experience that supports it.
Voice chat is currently available to all 13+ phone number verified users in these countries: US, CA, GB, IE, AU, NZ, ES, MX, CL, CR, PR, FR, IT, AT, CHE, DE, JP, KR, CH, AR, COL, PE, DO, GT, UY, SV, HN, PY, NI, EC, BO, VE, PA, BR PT. Users not in these countries should use ID verification to enable voice chat.
How do I enable Voice Chat?
Eligible 13+ users must first be phone number verified or ID verified to see the voice chat option in their Privacy Settings page. Voice chat is not enabled by default.
To enable voice chat, follow the instructions below:
- Go to Account Settings
- Go to the Privacy tab
- Under Microphone and Camera Input, toggle the “Use microphone to chat with voice” selector to ON
- The toggle will turn from gray to green, indicating that voice chat has been enabled for your account.
- You can toggle the selector off at any time to disable voice chat.
In addition to Settings, 13+ phone number verified users can enable voice chat when they are in a voice-enabled experience. You’ll see an on-screen notification asking for your consent for voice recording specifically for safety, moderation and improving our tools and services. After that, your device will ask you to confirm microphone access.
Note: Not all devices will require this 2nd prompt.
13+ users are encouraged to enjoy this exciting way to communicate on Roblox, but must also continue to adhere to the Terms of Use and Community Standards as they would within any Roblox experience. Users that violate these rules may be suspended or removed from voice chat and have further moderation actions taken against their Roblox account.
How can I tell who has Voice Chat?
13+ users with voice chat enabled will see a speaker icon next to the user name and above the avatar of other users that have voice chat enabled. |
How do I Mute, Block, or Report Abuse on Users in Voice Chat?
Muting another user’s voice chat
You can mute another user in a voice chat experience by clicking the speaker icon that will appear over their avatar’s head or next to their name in the Roblox menu. Muting only applies to voice chat and not text chat. It will only last while you are in the experience session. To unmute a user, access the Roblox menu and click the speaker icon next to their username. |
Blocking another user
You can block another user in a voice chat experience to prevent them from engaging with you in voice chat or text chat. Please see our help article here: How to Block Another User. |
Report Abuse
If someone is violating the Terms of Use or Community Standards, use the Report Abuse feature to file a report with our moderation team. You can now specify “Voice Chat” when using the Report Abuse feature. See our help article here: How to Report Rule Violations.

How do I know which experiences support Voice Chat?
To find out if an experience supports voice chat, review the About section and/or experience Description page. If Microphone is displayed under the Communication field, this indicates voice chat is supported in that experience.
How can I turn off Voice Chat?
To disable the voice chat feature, follow the instructions below:
- Go to Account Settings
- Go to the Privacy tab
- Under Microphone and Camera Input, toggle the “Use microphone to chat with voice” selector to OFF
- The toggle will turn from green to gray, indicating that voice chat has been disabled for your account.
- You can toggle the selector back on at any time to re-enable voice chat.
Optional:
For a more immersive communication experience, your camera can be enabled to animate your avatar. Animating your avatar with your movement is an entirely new way to express yourself and communicate with others on Roblox. The feature uses your device camera to mirror your movements and facial expressions onto your avatar in real time. For more information, see here.
Voice chat is not available for Roblox users on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
