Roblox offers a variety of parental controls to help parents and caregivers manage their child’s game on the platform. You will need a Roblox account linked to your child’s account to manage parental controls on behalf of your child. Learn more in the Parents: How to Link Your Child’s Account help article.
Content Controls
The content maturity settings allow you to control the types of content your child has access to in Roblox games. To adjust your child’s setting:
- Go to Settings
- Go to Parental Controls and select your child's account
- Go to Settings you Manage
- Scroll down to Settings you manage and select Content restrictions
- Select Content maturity
- Adjust the slider bar to the right or left to select the content maturity level that you are comfortable with. A brief description of the type of content will appear below the selected setting. Note that Restricted games are only available to 18+ age checked users.
Allowed and Blocked Games
Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts only provide access to a set of age-appropriate games. Use specific game controls to manage whether your child can access individual games in Roblox Kids or Roblox Select.
Allow a game
If a game is not available by default in your child’s Roblox Kids or Roblox Select account, you are able to allow access to that specific game.
- Select View Settings in the request email to open the request in Roblox.
- Select Allow or Don’t Allow to approve or deny the request.
Parental Controls
- Navigate to Pending requests in your settings to see any allowed games requests.
- Select Allow or Don’t Allow to approve or deny the request.
- Review and manage your child’s allowed games via Content restrictions > Allowed games.
- To revoke approval for a game, select the three-dot menu next to the game title and select Don’t allow.
Block a game
Block a game to prevent your child from accessing it, regardless of its content maturity level. Blocked games will still appear in search results. To block a game:
- Go to Settings
- Go to Parental Controls and select your child's account
- Scroll down to Settings you manage and select Content restrictions
- Select Blocked games
- Select the + icon. In the search bar, type the game name you want to block
- Select Block and confirm. To unblock a game, click Unblock and confirm.
- If you block a game while your child is playing, the block will only take effect the next time they enter the game.
Content Labels
Our content maturity labels help users and their parents understand what types of content to expect in Roblox games. These labels are grounded in child development research and informed by industry standards. Parents can use the content maturity setting in parental controls to restrict their child’s access to content based on what makes sense for their family.
Content Label Descriptions
- Minimal: May contain occasional mild violence, light unrealistic blood, and/or occasional mild fear.
- Mild: May contain repeated mild violence, heavy unrealistic blood, mild crude humor, and/or repeated mild fear.
- Moderate: May contain moderate violence, light realistic blood, moderate crude humor, unplayable gambling content, and/or moderate fear.
- Restricted: May contain strong violence, heavy realistic blood, moderate crude humor, romantic themes, unplayable gambling content, the presence of alcohol, strong language, and/or moderate fear. We allow access to Restricted content only for users who are 17+ age-verified.
Sensitive Issues
The sensitive issues content label is applied to games that are primarily themed on current sensitive social, political, or religious issues. This descriptor is not intended to take a stance on any of these issues. By default, users under 13 cannot access games that are primarily themed on sensitive issues. To enable access for your child:
- Go to Settings.
- Go to Parental Controls and select your child's account.
- Go to Settings you Manage.
- Scroll down to Settings you manage and select Content restrictions.
- Select Sensitive issues.
- Toggle the Allow sensitive issues selector ON to allow your child to access games that are primarily themed on sensitive issues.
- You can toggle the selector OFF at any time to disable their access.
Communication Controls
Communication controls allow you to determine how your child can chat on Roblox.
To set the controls for Game chat:
- Go to Settings.
- Go to Parental Controls.
- Scroll down to Settings you manage and select Communication.
- Go to Communication.
- Select Game chat. Game chat allows your child to chat with other users in similar age groups within a specific game.
- If your child has completed an age check you can edit your child’s communication settings to determine how your child can use text chat. There are two settings:
- Game chat - This determines if your child can text chat with users in similar age groups in the same game. You can find more info on game chat here. Users under the age of 9 require parental consent to enable game chat.
- Game direct chat - This determines who your child can chat with directly when using the ‘/w’ command inside of a game server. Users can only direct chat with other age checked users in similar age groups. Users under the age of 13 require parental consent to enable direct chat.
Note: These settings do not apply to chat features developed independently by developers.
Party chat is only allowed between age checked users above 13 in similar age groups. To use parental controls for Party:
- Go to Settings
- Go to Parental Controls
- Scroll down to Settings you manage and select Communication
- Go to Communication
- Select Party. A Party allows you to group up to join games together.
- Select values for each of the settings to determine who can join parties with your child. There are two settings available:
- You have the option to change the Party setting from Connections to No one. Selecting Connections limits you to a 1:1 Party (up to two members), and if you select No one, you will be unable to participate in any Party.
- You also have the option to change the Group Party setting from Connections to No one. When Connections is selected, you can be in a Party with up to six members.
Note: If settings for Party are set to No one, then Group Party will also be set to No one.
Private Servers
A private server is a Roblox game with limits on who can join. To limit who can join your child’s private servers and whose servers they can join:
- Go to Settings
- Go to Parental Controls
- Scroll down to Settings you manage and select Visibility & private servers
- Select Private Servers
- Choose between Connections or Off
Connections List
You can view, block, and report your child’s Roblox connections from within your parent dashboard. To manage your child’s connections list:
- Go to Settings
- Go to Parental Controls
- Scroll down to Connections and select Manage
- Your child’s connection will be displayed as usernames alongside their avatar. You can select an avatar to see the user’s profile.
- You can block and report a connection by selecting the three dot menu next to the connection. Select Block and confirm to remove the user from your child’s connection list.
- Blocked users will not be able to chat directly with your child or add them as a connection again without your permission. Select Report to file a complaint against the user.
Spending Controls
You can set a monthly spending limit on how much money your child can spend on Roblox, including Robux or subscriptions to individual games. This limit does not impact gift card redemption. You can also choose to enable or disable notifications about your child’s spending.
To set spending controls:
- Go to Settings
- Go to Parental Controls
- Go to Settings You Manage
- Scroll down to Settings you manage and select Spending restrictions
- You can set a monthly spending limit. Regardless of whether the allowed monthly limit is reached, it will reset at the end of the calendar month and not roll over.
- You can also determine if you want to receive spending notifications. You can choose if you want to be notified for every transaction, for only very high monthly spending, or both. High spend notifications are on by default for all linked parents. This means that you should receive purchase notifications after $100, $250, and $500 of spend in a given month (or the equivalent in local currency). After reaching $500, you should receive purchase notifications for every ten transactions by default.
