Eligible 13+ users must first be phone number verified or ID verified to see the Voice Chat option in Communication settings. Voice Chat is not enabled by default.
Phone or ID verification and enabling Voice Chat settings can only be done through the Roblox mobile app, desktop app, or Roblox.com.
Chat and Voice features may not be available in certain regions. Verification methods, such as phone number or ID, may also not be available to all accounts.
Turn on/off Voice Chat for Mobile, Desktop, Web or Console
To turn on Voice Chat for the first time, you need to be at least 13 years old, and you must first verify your phone number or verify your ID. After completing phone or ID verification, you can turn on Voice Chat in Communication Settings:
- Go to Roblox Settings.
- On mobile or desktop app: Go to More (...) and select the Gear icon.
- On Roblox website: Select the Gear icon in the upper right corner.
- Go to Privacy and content restrictions.
- Go to Communication.
- Go to Voice Chat and switch the “Enable Microphone” selector to ON.
- The toggle will turn from gray to blue, indicating that Voice Chat has been enabled. You can toggle the selector OFF at any time to disable Voice Chat.
- You can also mute and unmute your microphone on your device or within the experience.
Once Voice Chat is enabled, you can use the feature in any experience that supports it. For more information, see our Voice Chat FAQ help article.
If you do not see the Voice Chat setting after completing phone or ID verification, the feature may not be available in your region.
Turn on/off Voice Chat from a voice-enabled experience
In addition to Voice Chat settings, 13+ phone number verified users can enable voice chat when they are in a voice-enabled experience. You’ll see an on-screen notification asking for your consent for voice recording, specifically for safety, moderation and improving our tools and services. Your device will then ask you to confirm microphone access. Not all devices will require this second prompt.
Console users must use the Roblox mobile app, desktop app, or Roblox.com to enable Voice Chat in settings, as it cannot be set up in-experience.
Respect the Community
13+ users are encouraged to enjoy this exciting way to communicate on Roblox, but must also continue to adhere to the Terms of Use and Community Standards as they would within any Roblox experience. Users that violate these rules may be suspended or removed from Voice Chat and have further moderation actions taken against their Roblox account.
