This article is for all tax questions we are able to answer and information regarding our payment processor Tipalti.
Roblox is not able to provide tax advice or information on which tax form to use.
DevEx Portal (Tipalti)
Tipalti is a third-party payment processor that we have partnered with to process DevEx payments. Once you submit a DevEx request, and if it is approved to proceed to the next step you will be sent an invitation to get setup on the DevEx Portal.
You must provide your payment method and tax form within one week of receiving the registration link. If you do not complete registration, we cannot process your payment.
The Roblox account owner should be the one whose name and information is on the DevEx request, Tipalti portal and tax form. Please note, the name on the bank account (if applicable) should also match the name on the Tipalti portal.
If you are locked out of your DevEx portal, please submit a request to DevEx using the Roblox Support Form. If you forget your password, please click on “Forgot Password" on the DevEx portal login page.
Payment Methods
Tipalti lets you get paid in a bunch of ways like ACH, eCheck, Paypal, Checks, and Wire transfers. What's available depends on where you live, so check Tipalti Payment Methods Coverage for your country's options.
When you choose your payment method, remember that there are extra costs called transaction fees and foreign exchange (FX) fees. You can view these fees on your Devex account.
Keep in mind that we are not able to make payments to certain countries, entities, or individuals because of legal or other considerations. Obecnie jesteśmy jednak w stanie dokonywać płatności na rzecz uczestników programu DevEx w ponad stu różnych krajach.
To view fees or to change your payment method or local currency, log in to your DevEx account. Then, go to payment details, select a new payment method and currency, and save your changes.
Payment Method Transaction Fees
There is a fee every time we send you money from DevEx. This fee comes out of your Devex payment, and changes depending on the payment method you choose. Our vendor charges these transaction fees to process your payment, and we cannot change them. Roblox doesn't add any extra charges on top of that. You can see all the details about these fees and your payment method on the DevEx portal.
Please be aware that foreign exchange fees can change anytime without notice.
Paypal Transaction Fees
PayPal can cost up to $21 a payment depending on where you live. You can view these fees on your DevEx account by logging in and going to the payment details page.
The PayPal fee structure for receiving payments:
- Paypal international: $1 + 2% up to a maximum of $21 USD
- Paypal domestic: $0.10 + 2% up to a maximum of $1 USD
Foreign Exchange Fees
Converting payment to local currency may have an extra foreign exchange fee of 1.9% to 3%. You can view these fees on your DevEx account and go to the payment details page.
DevEx Portal Payment Status and Payment Processing Time
There is an additional processing time for the payment to land in your bank account. Please note, the processing time may vary by payment method and the country the payment is being sent to. You can reference the chart below for the estimated processing time by payment method:
| Payment Method | Processing Time |
| ACH | 3 to 5 business days |
| eCheck | 3 to 5 business days |
| PayPal | 2 to 3 business days |
| Wire Transfer | 1 to 5 business days |
| Check | 7 to 14 business days |

Which tax form do I submit?
Tax reporting requirements vary based on whether you are a U.S. person or non-U.S. person.
According to the IRS, for U.S. federal tax purposes, a U.S. person includes, but is not limited to:
- An individual who is a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident alien.
- A partnership, corporation, company, or association created or organized in the U.S. or under the laws of the U.S.
- Any estate (other than a foreign estate).
- A domestic trust (as defined in Treasury Regulations Section 301.7701-7).
Process for a U.S. Person
All U.S. persons participating in the DevEx program are required to submit a W-9 tax form during their Tipalti account creation (after submitting their first payout request). Roblox will submit your tax information to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to validate your tax ID information. If U.S. tax information does not exactly match IRS records, a Roblox DevEx agent will contact you to get further information through email. Please verify this information comes from support-en@roblox.com to avoid phishing and scam emails.
If your cash earnings for the prior tax year are greater than $600 then Roblox will report your cash earnings to the IRS on IRS Form 1099-NEC. We generally issue these Forms on or before January 31 of each year.
The tax forms will be emailed to the email account associated with your DevEx portal, and mailed to the address provided on your W-9. You will receive a digital copy of your tax form from noreply@efilemagic.com. Included in the email from E-file Magic you will be given instructions how to acquire your tax form. The link provided in the email will expire in one year.
Process for a non-U.S. Person
All non-U.S. Persons participating in the DevEx program are required to submit a IRS W-8BEN (or other applicable IRS Form W-8) tax form during Tipalti account creation to confirm that you are a non-U.S. person. By signing the IRS W-8 tax form, you are certifying you are not a U.S. person.
As a non-U.S. Person you generally will not receive an annual tax form.
Where to submit Tax Form
Please submit your tax form on the DevEx portal. If you need to update your tax form, please do so on the DevEx portal. Do not email your tax form to us.
Is DevEx available for individuals and companies?
Yes, if you are submitting as an individual we ask that your payment method and tax form submitted on the DevEx portal reflects your personal information. If you are a company, then we ask that the payment method and tax form submitted to the DevEx portal reflects the company’s information. Please note, the information entered on the DevEx portal should match the information entered on the DevEx request.
Which tax forms are available on the DevEx portal?
W9 and W8 tax forms are available. For instructions and more information regarding the tax forms, please visit the IRS website.
Additional Resources on Choosing the Correct Tax Form
Tipalti has a tax questionnaire that might help determine which tax form you should use. However, we do recommend that you consult with a tax advisor for specific tax questions.
