As your child’s Roblox account ages up, we want you to be informed of the changes in account features and management that come with this milestone. As children grow older, we gradually shift account management from the parent to the child.
The age on your child or teen’s Roblox account helps us know what content and communication features should be available by default on Roblox. As your child or teen gets older, certain features become available. When the age on the account reaches a milestone, Roblox will send you and your linked child (if applicable) a message describing some of the changes that will be made to their account.
Roblox Kids: Ages 5-8
Access will be limited to games with a Minimal or Mild content maturity label that have passed our three-step selection process for content to be allowed. Parents can allow access to specific games (including games rated Moderate or not part of the Roblox Kids catalog except for Restricted games).
For age-checked users, all communication is disabled by default, and children need parental permission to access any chat features.
The design will include a blue background color across the app experience to indicate account type.
Roblox Select: Ages 9-12
Once children reach the age of 9, they will be able to access games with content maturity Moderate, which may contain things like moderate violence or moderate crude humor. Parents can allow access to specific games (including games outside of the Roblox Select catalog except for Restricted games).
For age-checked users, users under the age of 9-12 need parental permission to access certain communication features.
Parents can control the following
- Content
- Content Maturity Level
- Sensitive Games
- Blocked Games
- Allowed Games
- Friends
- View Friends & Block Users
- Review Screen time Insights
- Communication
- Chat Settings
- Spending
- Spending Notifications and Spending Limits
- Visibility and Private Servers
- Inventory Visibility
Roblox Select: Ages 13-15
As children grow older, we gradually shift account and feature management from the parent to the child.
What changes
At 13, children start managing their own privacy settings:
- Account information (email, phone)
- After an age check, access to communication features like voice chat and Party chat – unless restricted by a parent
- Ads preferences, as they’re now eligible for ads on Roblox
Any spending limits no longer apply. To continue to receiving spending notifications for your child:
- Navigate to Parental Controls in your Account
- Scroll to the Bottom of Dashboard
- Select Spending Insights > Spending Notifications
Your child will also be able to use some features for the first time, like using their phone number to find and connect with friends and seeing suggested friends as “People you May Know.”
What shifts parent to child
At age 13, children directly manage these settings:
- Screen time limits
- Blocking users
What doesn't change
Even as your child gains more autonomy, your accounts stay linked to each other.
You’ll still be able to do the following in Parental Controls:
- Manage Direct chat settings
- Allow specific games
- Block specific games
You'll also be able to see their activity, including:
- Screen time and top games
- Who they’re friends with
- Your child’s birthday, age check status, and other information
Roblox: Age 16-17
As teens get older, they gain access to more content and manage more of their own Roblox settings while their linked parent accounts stay connected.
Parents can still view insights about their teen’s activity, including friends, screen time, and spending activity. They can also opt in to spending notifications from their linked parent account.
Roblox: Age 18+
When a user turns 18, their account is automatically unlinked from their parent. In addition, other settings, such as their Ads Preferences, will be updated. 18+ users also become eligible for accessing Restricted games if they have completed an age check.
Default settings and feature availability may vary by region.
